What is something you WOULDN'T change about PB2?

Postby mingo1 » 19 May 2022, 05:17

If you've played PB2 enough, chances are there are elements of the game you're really fond of. Is there anything in PB2, whether it be in-game or within the level editor, that you would categorize as simply "perfect?"

Despite whatever flaws we may find with this now 10+ year old game, I'd love to shed some light on things you feel Eric truly nailed, and perhaps are things we can look forward to for PB3!

For me, I wouldn't change the self-boosting. It is so unique to this game... it even created a skill-gap and allowed for a lot of really creative maps. Even though it was apparently a mistake on Eric's part (self-boosting was never meant to be in the game), I think it's one of the most fun parts about the multiplayer experience!

From selfboosting to dodging projectitles (crawling through tiny spaces too from time to time), it looks satisfyingly, it works satisfyingly, I think PB2 wouldn't be PB2 without its ragdoll system
I'll do it tomorrow. Maybe.

Glitching through the walls, self boosting and sword flying shouldn't be removed or changed in any means.

However, I want netcode to change.
Plazma Burst 2 had its moments,

let it rest peacefully among the legendary flash games.

We might all miss the glitching through walls when you hit the wall just right in the right angle with the right speed in pb2.

Personally I wouldn’t change the level editor as it is an essential tool / feature for boosting inspiration and creativity for map development among all players. Going from learning the very basics to expanding knowledge further in-depth using variables and such — there are endless possibilities for what you could achieve. PB2 wouldn’t be the same without this.

self-boost

most 2d games that offers boosting for players either produce it like ur using a jet boost or double jumps, but in pb2 u basically walk then jump with rigging mod (X button) with using swords at the same time which is quite unique.

although, the things i would like to change is to bring better netcode with more servers.

anyways the rest i have seen in PB3 is looking good so i hope we get to play it some day sooner.

It's when people think it's good enough that it could be improved even more. :popcorncat:

Decors are one of an example. Some easier way to adjust them would be nice.
E.g.
- Centre point. (Moving it displaces the decor's x and y position.)
- A box editing on the decor. (Dragging them changes the size of the decor.)
- Rotation. (A curved arrow appears when ur cursor moves outside the box, hold left click and move mouse rotates it.)

It's something that people that used a photoshop tool or a drawing tool are already familiar with. (Referring to transform tool.)

Everyone is talking about the physics engine already so I'll go with something else.
Honestly the gunplay and combat go really well hand in hand with the physics. It's accessible but not without depth. You could spray and pray with automatics as there's no reloading, but you still need to learn the ballistics, any special mechanics of a weapon (like toxic projectiles, or a laser sensor), penetration, projectile type, damage, etc. With pistols and assault rifles you slowly wear your enemies down and press them back, while with heavier or higher caliber weapons you send them flying. Overall with the help of PB2's fancy physics, it all ties in neatly with the gunplay and feels so natural and fluid, even if it's not realistic.
Me in my imagination:
Complete and utter annihilation through superior volume of fire.

- The Advanced Level Editor tool
- Selfboosting
- Waterboosting
- Walljumping
- Glitching
- Basically any movement features...

Something I would change about PB2: Netcode
Forever young, ever strong, ever brave.
