Is PB2 worth paying for?

Postby mingo1 » 12 November 2020, 02:44

Be honest - do you think PB2 is worth a paywall, like Minecraft for example, which is $20?

If yes, how much do you think PB2 is worth?

If no, why?

Honestly , from my own experience in this game , I'd say it is worth paying for . Most people might say no which is understandable . But I am a gamer and I only play for games I actually enjoy . Which means I enjoyed PB2 alot since I started it in 2012 . It's been one of the best experiences I've ever had and always will be :)

Well if PB2 was for money im gonna be honest i would hate the game like a flash game thats for money, But for PB3 if it cost for money it would make sense because its put with lots of efforts and worked on for many years, and also i have a theory if you guys remember the android from level 42 the android's story might continue in PB3.

No. Really, no.
like what was mentioned, game lags, poor netcode, plus what is the point of a player paying for a game if he would be banned later? ._.

Depends on Eric's decision, if the game was paid most of the community won't be focused inside that game anymore, don't forget the DLC tho
Plazma Burst 2 had its moments,

let it rest peacefully among the legendary flash games.

Not in 2020. And definitely not $20. Maybe $3-5.

Given the multiplayer's state, I would not give a single penny to buy the game.
How many bugs does this game have anyway? jeez

PB2 is definitelly worth paying for.
But would I pay for it? no.

From the fact that you can make your own creations, you can build databases, ect.
To playing with friends. This game is a masterpiece.

Also If Eric Gurt really considered making it paid that would mean he'd have to do alot more for the game to make sure it's good such as netcode, servers, ect.
This also gives him the chance to pay for servers and advertising the game.

Overall, making PB2 paid seems like a good idea, if all these basic things were fixed.
And that people would actually pay for the game.

I'd say price should be around £1-2

no i don't think i would pay for pb2, not even my favorite best flash game series in my life PB1 fttp, but i would only pay for PB2.5, but still, nobody will play the game like this, although it's a good thing, we won't see kids anymore, kids don't even know how to buy games lol, even if i would like to buy PB3 i still not gonna agree lul, PB2 has really a lot of bad issues despite the good things on this game.

if the PB2 game was purchased, then we will have a new gaming drama, just like "Hunt down the freeman" (aka the shittiest mode for half-life 2), also eric would lose a lot, it's true that he would get money, but making games is properly eric's hopy and hopies are not great to give wealth.

Pros:
30-40 minutes of campaign gameplay.
Community (small).
Custom maps.
Interesting concept.
Multiplayer.

Cons:
Flash game.
Lag.
Multiplayer limitations (1 server, always same maps, etc).
Toxicity.
Weak story.

Back when the game was released, yes, it could have been worth about 5-10€, if the paywall didn't affect community & custom maps.

I would love to see extra content such as DLC or skins instead of fan-made, non-canon submissions.

In it's current state, not really? But also kinda? It's hard to tell. On one side, the game itself and what it offers is amazing and is 100% worth being paid for, not to mention the fact that Eric Gurt is developing this one of a kind game by HIMSELF. However, the game has issues, and some of them are pretty big. Multiplayer is an example, if we think about it the game, the multiplayer side of it atleast, is just a laggy buggy mess. It's fun, but it's definitely not polished. Eric is working on it though and has improved it a ton so I don't think it's that big of a problem now.

The original campaign and the poor multiplayer experience does not justify a price, but you can get a lof of hours worth of playing custom content made by the community assuming you are masochist enough to tolerate and unironically enjoy the low-quality productions that are there so that can pretty much measure a price for the game.

The level editor is pretty much a game engine currently, the variable actions with the easy to move backgrounds, decors and the request URL trigger action makes pretty much anything made up until to the SNES possible to be made in PB2, I plan on making Final Fantasy I (Origins version for the PS1 because the one for the original NES has really bad gameplay) and I am pretty sure I am going to be able to make it, if this is a trend that ends up happening, or even with that single map, you can get other games inside of this game, so, would you pay for multiple games?
The level editor is amazing, it teaches you skills and is simply... one of the best games I've ever seen, just because of the editor, without it? I probably would pay because I have been playing this for like 8 years, but if I did not have all that experience and such, I probably would not, I probably would not even realize the editor is that amazing.

The game's strongest point is the nearly infinite potential of the Level Editor. However the engine itself has limits to how much it can handle before lagging to the extent of making the game unplayable (let alone fun). If there was a way to fix that perhaps then we could consider imagining about paying for it.

It would be worth a few euro if it was optimized and the netcode fixed (no invicibility because of 200 ping)

pb2 is just broken and dead pb2.5/3 is our last chance to live

I think this is kind of ironic:
PB2 currently offers a plethora of content and unlimited possibilities, all online and, most importantly, for free. Because of this, people love the game so much that they may be willing to donate a few dollars towards keeping the game alive or for funding the next game (so that it can also come out for free).
However, if PB2 was released as a paid game, then people will be disappointed by certain aspects of the game, and as a result it would get a lot of hate.
The irony is that when PB2 is released for free, people feel generous with their money, but if it is released for profit, people gravitate away from it.
That's just me speculating.

To answer the question: The ALE is the game's main selling point, but other aspects like the campaign and multiplayer are otherwise unmemorable. So I wouldn't pay to play this game.
Me in my imagination:
Complete and utter annihilation through superior volume of fire.

I've retired from this game already but if I were to be still actively playing it every day, I would definitely pay for it. PB2 has given me so many memories and the ALE is the best map-making tool I've ever seen in any flash games.
