Anti-Spam filter for PM's

Postby Konquer » 26 December 2015, 13:42

This is basically my idea. 2 guys keep sending me something like "you should play my map: bad-made". The anti-spam filter would send messages like these to SPAM folder and not show on entering forums "You got new PM" , or show "Inbox (1)". What do you guys think about it?

A spam folder, hm, seems like a good thing to have.

Yeah, this would be pretty useful.

Maybe there would be a message notifying you or something if a message was moved to spam so you could review it, just in case it really was important.
who needs a PB2.5 release date, anyways?

I think it would work like most email spam folders, you have your inbox then your spam folder where anything the website considers spam is sent, after 3 days spam messages are deleted automatically. It's up to you to check your spam folder for anything which isn't spam and move it to your inbox.

If you got a notification every time something was sent to the spam folder and you're someone who receives 6+ spam messages per day it would be pretty annoying don't you think?

Right, I see where your going with this, so we should have a spam folder and every message that is placed in there for 3 days be deleted sounds like a great plan, 3 days is average.

3 days? I hope it'd be possible to customize this value. Sometimes I have to be offline for weeks (like, travelling to somewhere). I wouldn't want to lose an important message just because I couldn't check the spam folder in time.

That's a very good point NNC, maybe the spam folder could have an optional length of time until it is cleared, or maybe the folder itself could be optional.

Is this for site PMs or forum PMs?

You can set up something like this on the forums ( http://prntscr.com/9j6b2g ). The site needs something similar like a rule system where you can define rules that affect how messages are treated, marked, and organized. A filter can be made easily with rules and can be made the way you want it.

Yeah I think this is more of a site thing since you can already sort of do it on the forums.

I don't think this would work well on pb2 as messages sent by your friends could be judged as spam and the messages what are spam could probably get through to your inbox...
Why not just block them?

It just needs to be set up so that messages from your friends are never counted as spam. Then it's up to you to make sure you add people who are actually friends and not randomers.

Not really sure, about the delete after 3 days thing.
But seems like a good idea.

I feel like a spam folder isn't really needed. If someone is spamming you, you can just block them as someone else already stated above.
Yes it would be a nice feature that I am in favor of, but i don't think it should be a priority. Honestly pb2 has bigger problems to be solved. Problems such as ping limits and guest rights.

props on your good systematic approach to the problem tho.
