Weather?

Postby Vexiled » 7 December 2015, 12:32

Hey guys!

As you can see from the title, this topic has everything to do with weather. Basically the question is: What weather-related things do you think should be added to the game? This can range from E-marks, triggers, etc.

I'll start us off by just listing a couple ideas I had in mind:
- Rain (E-mark)
- Heavy Thunderstorm (Has lightning/thunder | E-mark)
- Windy (Heavier-sounding than normal winds | E-mark)
- Blizzard (Shows much more snow | E-mark)
- Forest (Various animals noises and such to emulate an actual forest | E-mark)

Remember, this is a suggestion-type topic! Meaning that it's all based on the input you guys give, so add on to my list and make suggestions!

Yea, weather would be a good thing to add in the game :p

- Maybe a trigger: Make lightning in region 'A' with a damage around 'B' hitpoints.
- And maybe acid rains who make a lot of damage when you walk through it...
- And walls with ice on it :p

These features should definitely be added with Engine-Marks.

And, i really like the idea.
The weather could even affect the bullets and stuff.
If so, there should also be gravity influences on bullets then.

Wouldn't hurt to add some atmospheric elements. Why not.

This is awesome, +1 from me, I agree!

Now, what if we take it to the next level? The weather affects parts of the map!

For example, if there's a huge thunderstorm and you're in water, lightning shocks the water and BAM you're dead.
Or, if there's lights on the map with a blizzard on it, the storm simply takes out the lights or functioning triggers, regions, buttons, etc.

It would add more realism and a twist to the map. I think that'd be really cool. Having dynamic systems like that.
Of course, having it all be destroyed when the map starts would be annoying, so how about a feature to REPAIR these objects?

There's many cool things we could do with this.
Once again, excellent idea!

:D

Yeah, and being able to edit the properties of the weather and setting where the weather would take place and move would be even cooler.

Hell yeah! I'd love it to be raining all of a sudden in a map. Just adds a bit of realism to it all. :)

I thought Plazma Burst already had the snowing/blizzard effect on Christmas, but different weather types added WOULD BE AWESOME. However, like others have said this needs to be controlled by the map triggers rather than being entirely random. It would be silly if it started raining inside a large facility map with no wall boundaries.

Pb2 does but doesn't it only come once a month? Perhaps having an engine mark for weather would be co.

YES to the idea, and yeah, it should be trigger controleable instead of random.

Another weather type i suggest:

Sandstom.
Thunder and Blood

It also shouldn't hurt to perhaps add physical particles to some of these so that perhaps hail could damage the player or something or maybe in a sandstorm heavy amounts of sand and rock could push the player. Maybe wind could push the player too.

How about implementing a day/night cycle too?

Maybe that could be too OP depending on the map and context.

The only one I definitely agree with is windy. As for the others ...

Rain would look cool but it wouldn't do much to gameplay, unless you're able to create pools which fill with water from the rain. Obviously you don't want rain building up everywhere so maybe have "rain build up regions" to specify the areas where it can do this.

Heavy thunderstorm is a combination of wind and rain and obviously the lightning and thunder visual and sound effects. Would be cool, but, (sorry, I must say this), it would just lag a lot.

Blizzards would be cool if they don't lag too much. I guess it would be similar to rain, you could specify where the snow builds up, or just have an engine mark so that it can build up anywhere.

I really don't see the point in Forest but that's just my opinion, and it shouldn't be too hard to add some sound effects if that's all you want from it.

I have a suggestion for another type of weather, fog, this would be administered either by an engine mark or a region and trigger, as you enter an area it becomes foggy, (creepy), it would definitely intensify gameplay in almost any map, and it could work wonders in SP maps especially, the storytelling applications of it are endless.
