Like you said, many maps nowadays are based in some type of industrialized or structured place. While sure they can be unique all in their own, it's cool to see something differ completely from the norm. So you definitely have that going for you, not to mention the whole "underground" concept is nice in itself. Though there's a couple suggestions I have in mind, so here you go:
Platforms/Structures: To me, you have this area practically nailed spot-on. You may have left the surface open and barren, but you have the underground areas to make up for that. It's like the surface a way to quickly traverse the map, but at the risk of no cover. You have nice holes here and there in the underground sections so that you can jump around, giving some vertical feel to the map (Not to mention it's all on giant hill, which I like). Only thing I'd recommend would make the 2 buildings a little more covered, since with the heavy railgun's you could spawn kill to some degree. Also, it'd be kinda nice if you had maybe one more little building in the middle of the map, just for variety.
Aesthetics: You've got this pretty nicely. The lighting in the map is good, I like how you kept the tunnels actually natural and let the skylight do its own thing, giving a realistic feel (Looks nice too). Though you should change up the barriers at the side of the map. I wouldn't do just the elevator BG, you could make some interesting structure, or you a laser/pusher combination. Definitely get rid of the message though, It's not necessary. You have a couple rocks here and there, a nice touch. I don't like the portal all that much, the functionality of it is good (And needed), but it's looks weird being just in the underground. Maybe make a little underground structured (That's maybe rundown?) area so it fits in better.
Aside from those suggestion I really like the map and would love to see more, great job!
