PB2 Mapmaking As A Career???

Postby Phant0mB0nnie » 23 November 2020, 03:28

I'm not asking whether or not this is possible. I already know the answer to that. :(

The question I'm asking is: What do you think things would be like if PB2 mapmaking became a career?
Any answers are welcome! This thread exists purely for speculation purposes.

I would definitely try to pursue PB2 mapmaking as like a hobby, side-job or a part-time to just earn a little money. I mean we can even think of it as basic programming now with the introduction of variables.

Short answer: Not directly changes applied to PB2.
Long answer: Currently PB2 doesn't offer a support to "pay to buy my maps" method just like how Minecraft bedrock marketplace works. But in such indirect position it may work by hosting paetron, release few episodes and tell people to donate money to you to give the other episodes using modded swf (best) or .pb2map to tell them install on new source and play them (not that ez for user)

But otherwise, let's say if mapmaking become a career, basically it will become OSU beat map makers career mode otherwise we can't say something else :sorry:

So it depends how you want to earn money. Either going to fiverr for money to map making, or paetron for unlock further series.

PB2 map making is basically programming at this point, it is very similar to many game engines and such, you can make similar careers.
I however have interests that sadly are like the hardest thing ever to work with in PB2 (like how do you do anything that involves machine learning? I've been thinking about this for a long time), so I probably would not work with it, but it would be very interesting to see the amazing stuff that would be made, full blown actual map making teams making maps, it would be super cool, a thing that probably would blow up with time is making games inside of PB2, and that is possible, also tools for making map making easier (like my PB2 image insertor PB2IMG2, but others as well) and probably different versions of the editor with additional features and such.

Honestly, it's not the worst idea. However, when you look at the number of people who still play this game... yeah.

Careers are only good for such projects as game developing, not for some single maps that can be done by one person.

1 - Map making clans / groups.
2 - More interest in copying or stealing.
3 - Inflating your LDR for popularity or getting more demand, such as via paying people & slapping your name on it.
4 - Approval system changes, due to bigger interest showing up as bias complains, cheating or more approval demand.
5 - Eric ultimately facilitating, regulating or banning it due to the presence of money, young playerbase, etc.
