PB2 old Forum removed and added back (?)

Forums removal and backup (mystery breakout)(also what kept the forums alive and what killed it too)

hi, it's really good to make topics after a long time, this thread is not even a mystery breakout, it's just a very weird situation went in the PB2 community timeline, and a lot of old members only know about that, or for whoever was in that events.

i just wanted to discuss that even if that discussion was dead from ages, but you know, i tried to find something that not all people know about it especially the new members who joined after that event, okay for whoever didnt knew, now you knew about that, also you can check out that topic thread, here.


so eric made PB2 forums back in the days and then he decided to remove it and also add it again, for no reason, why that happened tho, i guess eric wanted to try a new one but people didn't liked it so he added the old one back, i also heard that there will be a forum for PB2.5 as soon as the game comes out, or maybe not?

well, i guess that thing even happened before PB2.5 development was going to start, so i guess that event was between 2014 - 2015 maybe, so properly i found that thread very interesting to talk about because i dont know much about that and then i wanted to know more, i'm also wondering what if people didnt complained about the new forum and went fine with it too, and also wondering how the new forum will look like, or eric will just use the old one, well when eric removed the old forum, all people lost their posts as well which quite disappointing and sad too, i wish if i had a twitter account i would discuss eric about that or ask him about using the old forum or making a new one, so if you found that a good question, please ask eric that would be kind, anyways (back to the topic), well we are in 2020, the game is like 65.4% done in my opinion, (please dont rage out i'm not asking about the game release), so it's really far to know, but still didnt felt all these reasons was quite reasonable for removing and adding back the forums, there should be unsolved thing about that as well, who knows if eric had old forums but he removed it way back in the days or he just didnt used it at all, back in these days 2015, all people was talking about PB3 which kept to forums active, when people got bored and the game changed after years and years, new members and more things got changed, nobody is finding more interesting thing to talk about, and that is the reason why the forums are dying, well, the forums just died from a long time ago because if there is nothing new to talk about, the forums is just braindead, also did removing the forums made people realize that the forums just died?, which is some members thought the game is dying, and they didnt knew that eric added it back though?

so i guess our only thing to do is not to try to keep the forum alive, that is worthless, just wait until PB2.5 comes out and you will see how the forums and the community game will back alive then, and well i guess we solved that mystery, why forums died and why the forums removed and added back, here are the answers

Q1: why the forums are dying and when it was alive?

A1: back in the days, the forums were just fine and normal, when the announcement of the PB2.5 game came out, the community forums just jumped up in 2015, all people started to talk about it i mean, talkin' about the game as well, yet then until nothing new came up, people got disappointed that the game didn't come out earlier so yes, the community started to die as well.

Q2: why eric removed the old forums and then added back the old one again?

A2: well, i guess eric decided to use a new forum as a test, but people disliked it and missed the old one so eric decided to add the old one back

another question:

Q*: there will be a forum for PB2.5

A*: possibly yes I guess, as soon as the game releases we will know.

I feel this one would still be used with minimal changes, once PB3 is released.

I think we switched to like 3 forum hosts before back in 2015 and that it was Tempus paying for the forum design/hosting and that's why he mentioned "burning a hole in my pocket" in the post.

I think the forum switch was so that the forums wouldn't be down when the PB2 servers are down. Back then, when the servers was done, everything connected to the website (Game, Site Chat, and the Forums) would also be down and there will be no direct connection to the staff team/community because we didn't have a discord.
However, it was inconvenient and uncomfortable because accounts weren't linked to the website. You had to register a new account to post (which may lead to account impersonation) and that account details weren't linked (your post counts would be resetted) and that posts weren't actually integrated. So it was basically a new forums.

I think the design was overall better than the current bland and simple one we have now, but then in terms of the actual use, eh I don't think so.

this is just my personal opinion and what I remember of the matter, I don't really know what happened back then because I wasn't staff at that time.

In line with the "new forum for PB2.5" matter. I've actually discussed this with Tempus and that I think it's better that we actually have a new forum for PB3 because of how outdated and old this forum looks. Perhaps it's better to upgrade to phpBB3, myBB, or some newer ones like Flarum or Discourse.
