Why doesn't PB2 advertise?

Postby Varoid37 » 26 August 2016, 22:21

I hear a lot of people saying PB2 is dying, I don't know if it's true or not, but just look at how few people are on the washington server, you go into the room search on it and there's barely even anything there.

I mean, I only ever figured out about this game I think because I played foreward to the past on kongregate or arcadepod or something and just randomly got the thought to look it up, so I'm really surprised it even took this long to start having problems finding enough players, it's an awesome game, but barely anyone even has a way to find out about it, and now that the latest decision games and games like learn to fly 3 have taken people's minds totally off of foreward to the past on kongregate simply because it came out so long ago, is it really surprising that we're having a lack of new players? If no one is still playing foreward to the past (Which wouldn't be surprising, considering that to still play it they would have had to do the same levels for like the past 8 years or something), then what would even give them the idea to look up plazma burst 2? Could you imagine how many people this game would have if it had advertisements on kongregate and stuff to remind people about it? Or if you made a new plazma burst game on kongregate that was sort of like a smaller single player game but still better than foreward to the past?

i guess eric doesn't have enough money to advertise his games. another reason can be adblock bless it's creator, screw the ads

Isn't there a site where you can get funding for stuff like this?

They have a partnership with Coolbuddy, Eric doesn't need to do that because:

1. Pb2 already has ads on it's page

2. Pb2.5 is coming out soon anyways

This. Eric is already being supported by Coolbuddy as a host. If Eric was independent during and after the publishing phase of his game (aka not having a host), then he would need to make the ads and such himself.

Coolbuddy is straight up garbage, which is why you don't see effective advertising or anything worth positively noting from them

Definitely agree, but there are so many problems with Coolbuddy it's undeniable that they're a terrible host. Coolbuddy needs to work on their content, especially on games they practically don't support. (I mean developing wise.)

Even if we had ads, the game itself is losing steam. It has tons of bugs and problems that aren't going to be fixed, because of PB2.5, and community problems, security problems and sync problems, and the game itself is going downhill.

Thank Eric for implementing server side multiplayer for Pb 2.5, so that everything will be in sync, not like pb2.

That cost money. Eric doesn't make that much of this game.
I'd doubt he would out of the blue start advertising
There is no real testimony from Gurt himself as to why.

Gurt=mastoorbating on turtles. Only a friendly notice ;)

Yeah, I ask myself why not kongregate. We'd have more staff probably and more people to revive this game.

That's a bad idea. Kongregate disappointed me after I made contact with some of its lesser members.
Armor Games and Newgrounds are better in my Opinion.

I'd rather stick with Kongregate. Armor games and Newgrounds don't have much mature members.

Kongregate+Plazma Burst=more activity=fun

Because it makes no sense since PB2.5 is coming out soon it's more logical to wait for it to be released then to advertise.

Even if people saw pb2. Most people already knew and played it and probably would ignore it.

You also have to take cost for consideration; even if the adds didn't help make money, eric would still need to pay money for the site because of its presence.

To everyone saying that Coolbuddy is a group, yeah no:

Eric should either change partners, or scrap that all together and go independent and advertise himself and possibly put the game up on steam, since this agreement isn't really going that well imo

This.

In the original post the part where you say PB2 is dying, all Flash games are dying at this point. It's much harder to compete with better, downloadable games that didn't exist 6 years ago. The era of online flash games is starting to die, but if they were to try a different approach it could stop it.

I'm no expert but I think the best thing for Flash game developers to do is to try and put their games onto Steam, and honestly PB2.5 looks like a great game to put up on Steam. It's proven to help other Flash games that have been made specifically for Steam. I would show examples if I could remember the one I'm thinking of, and it isn't even 2.5D/3D. PB2.5 already looks like a game that belongs as standalone or on Steam, the final product having much more potential to do just that.
