ok, RNG, sooooo it goes deeper than that, i wasnt going to post but i got to love DOTA 2 on this
yes i hate it almost always, in some cases like d&d it is nice but then its not a VIDEOGAME
so here is the thing, DOTA 2 has two types of RNG, a few specific ones like CKs stun, CK ult(does make sense because it is literally CHAOS knight, and a few skills like when you activate illusions or purely random attacks that are secondary like hero at lvl 25 gets the skill to throw a skill at someone else it is random but whoever is on range, etc
BUT THEN THERES THE PSEUDO-RANDOM DISTRIBUTION, which is nice, skills like critcs, evasion(more like countering it, bashes, so here is an example of how it works
lets take the item skull basher, it has a 25% chance of stunning someone, the way DOTA does it is that, it isnt 25%, there are two randoms, the first which is the pseudo-random which starts at 8%, then adds 8%, then 8%, etc, until you will almost for sure hit, but when you take the long term average, it is 25%
so that adds a lot of skill to the game as you can also CANCEL YOUR ATTACKS AND IT COUNTS BEFORE IT HITS
so what happens is that oyu can press to attack something and then S many times, until you assume you have a pretty high chance, in bashers case 2 or 3 tends to be the best, and then you can abuse it, it is amazing
BUT THERE IS ALSO ANOTHER CHANCE which is the function that generates the original pseudo-random distribution but multiplied by 2, and that is the double effect, eg: i hate two crystalys, that is how it adds up, basher doesnt work because it would kinda be broken, but other items do
so that is what makes DOTA one of the best games ever in my opinion, that minimal next-level attention to detail for professional play that makes the game extremely hard to master, there is much more like that and it is the difference betwen a bad and a good player many times
next person likes d&d
