Should PB2.5 lack content initially, for a sooner release?

General Discussion related to the Plazma Burst game series!

Do you think PB2.5/3 should have content like multiplayer as updates for a sooner release date?

Yes, the community should be able to play the game as it is developed, and this would help its development.

Yes, but it should have large features like multiplayer already finished and in the game.

Sort of. This should only be done with smaller things like bug fixes and optimizations.

Not really. it should still receive updates, adding new content instead of content that should already be there.

No, but there could be a few updates for minor things like new skins.

No, releasing content as updates will not help in growing the community for it.

No, doing this would lower the quality of the game.

Should PB2.5 lack content initially, for a sooner release?

Postby mrnat444 » 20 June 2017, 22:29

By now, a wide majority of what's left of the PB2 community knows about PB2.5. A wide majority of that knows that it has no release date, and there is a long way to go before that changes.

Eric Gurt has said that he does not feel as though Plazma Burst 2.5/3 could be released in an incomplete, early access type state, seen here.
Spoiler: Show More

He thinks that releasing it as a complete and polished game would be better for the game and its player count (and he could be right, he is the experienced developer here).

Although, the concept of being able to play a game as it develops has seemed to work for a lot of different games out there, and it is possible that this could work for PB2.5/3. But still, most of these games tend to have all kinds of different situations. Some of them have a development team, some of them have (a) developer(s) working full time (due to receiving money from it in some way), some of them have YouTubers and such playing them to grow the community, etc.

PB2.5/3 might not be a game that would fit a formula like this or the details that come with it. But it could also widely benefit from it. But regardless of this, there are still a few options which could help PB2.5/3's development in some way.

Gurt could get an expanded development team, but this would be difficult to set up and probably delay development of PB2.5/3 initially. Gurt could also allow some sort of donation system (like a Patreon), but this might not be enough to do much, and in return could even cause Gurt to feel stressed about the development.

So, I ask you: Should PB2.5/3 be released prematurely and receive its content as updates? Should Eric Gurt get a development team? Should Eric Gurt allow for donations? Would some of these options do more bad than good? Do you have any other ideas on how these could be solve or how to speed up development? Please reply to this and give your thoughts.

I think he should just complete the game and release it when he believes it is ready. He knows what to do. :D

It's probably going to take time releasing it so I can wait later if he really needs to. It's probably not very playable as if right now anyways.

The game should be released fully unlike Halo 5 but like Halo 5 receive a fair amount of Post Lauch support and extras for the community, the game should not be missing core features and if it costs money to purchase this game should be worth every penny but Eric should keep the game supports with new content of whatever he feels and some of what the community may want. At the end of it all it should just be complete on Lauch and we should support Eric in whatever choice he makes regarding PB2.5's lifespan
( which should exceed PB2 incredibly long life span )
Halo 2 is the best PFS shooter ever created, Halo 3 is trash and the BR is a rice shooter and Halo 5 is straight garbage.

Just to finish my post on this topic real quick; as long as eric doesnt allow maps from pb2 playable into pb2.5, the game should last as long as pb2 if not longer.

Unsure how this would affect the game in any shape or form but ok

Honestly, I'd be more than ok with a release that just has SP content. Then a month down the line, bam, multiplayer. Then the level editor. By the time those things have come out, Eric would have plenty of feedback to run off of.
who needs a PB2.5 release date, anyways?

I must say, I did not expect the poll to be as split as it is currently.
