Inapp matches problem

Postby spartan010 » 17 August 2016, 09:36

Recently I found out that sometimes there are some inapp matches, the match names are bad words. So how to stop this problem?

Preferable you report it to a mod but since timezones are a problem ;) (#asianpls)

You can just nuke it yourself but it must be really really inappropriate.

you either report it or deal with it, most of the times it's just the match's name and besides it's not like anything can happen in pee bee too

You don't post about it on the forums because everyone already knows. Nuke it.

More activity of moderators in the servers and maybe add a warning when entering multiplayer to not make matches with inappropriate or offensive names, just as a reminder of what is already in the Code of Conduct.

Because that'll clearly help

Most of the people who make these matches don't even know the rules exist and a wall of text certainly isn't going to stop them

We've been trying to address the issue, yeah you may still see inappropriate matches but it has decreased significantly compared to what it was 6 months ago.

Moderators have been going around the servers to check if there are any inappropriate matches, when we see them we close them. However though, there aren't enough of us around so it would be really grateful if user's would simply report the inappropriate matches to a moderator on the chat then he/she will be able to take care of it (yeah I know users do that already but what more can we do?).

tl:dr - Staff isn't for babysitting, make software do the job.

You can't really say you don't know the rules if when you click multiplayer a big reminder tells you to not create inappropriate or offensive matches, so if the problem continues, it is because the users want it (there isn't really need for sarcasm here, mainly because anything will actually help).

The moderators are not here to babysit the server, yeah. In bigger websites the punishment system is often automated by detecting who hacks, who is constantly spamming or/and censoring those who try-to-say-something-you-shouldn't, and if someone manages to bypass it then it is reported and sent immediately to the moderation team since it stands out as something uncommon as opposed to most things going unpunished. Now, there are problems easier to deal with than others, but it should be relatively easy to make a filter for matches/spamming/flaming if requested.

If you really want to address the problem to the moderation and administration team, I suggest they put a censorship filter for match making preventing any words that are obviously bad along with a warning screen telling you that you CAN'T DO THAT if you try to make a match with the bad words. It shouldn't be very intrusive since it only appears when you click to play multiplayer or when you try to do something wrong (think of the login screen warning about not sharing accounts but inside the game window). You can decide if the window appears only when you try to break that rule, only when you join multiplayer, or both. I wouldn't mind having both.

"Oh the filter is bypassed easily" - If not very well made, that's possible, but still not something that should be the staff team's fault. Also, if you care about the bans not being effective enough, you can increase the length since it won't affect anyone who has common sense/reads the Code of Conduct/pays minimum attention to the warning.

What a lot of people seem to be forgetting is that the game isn't being worked on anymore. A filter has been asked for since forever, especially when these matches were at its peak and it still hasn't been added. If it wasn't added then, it won't be added now.

Yes, think about the 99% of people who actually don't care about the message and ignore it before continuing to do the thing they were advised not to do (think of the login screen warning about not sharing accounts and how people still share accounts despite it telling you not to do it directly). It won't be intrusive because nobody will bother to spend 3 seconds reading a simple message; nobody will let it intrude because they'll just close it as soon as possible. A filter is barely going to help, especially when people will find ways to bypass it (the chat is a brilliant example of that). You can't keep censoring words forever to stop 1 little problem; there's other things that needs attention as well.

As for the opposing side of this issue, most of the people behind these matches act like children; show me a demographic where children actually complied with something immediately and without active resistance.
